Yes. It is a tropical plant and grows fastest between 22°C and 35°C, which covers most of the Indian growing season. In peak summer, keep the water level topped up daily — shallow tubs heat up fast and evaporate. A tub of at least 30 litres holds temperature far better than a small bowl.
Yes — a 12 to 18 inch wide container with 6 to 15 inches of water depth is ideal. It is one of the few aquatics that suits a terrace tub garden. Avoid fountains and pumps; moving water pushes the leaves under and they rot.
It roots in soil and floats its leaves on the surface. Plant the crown in a small pot of heavy garden soil or clay loam, top with a layer of gravel, then lower the pot into the tub so the leaves reach the surface. It will also survive free-floating, but growth stays slow and thin.
It spreads across the surface but is not aggressive and pulls out easily by hand. Trim the runners once a month in the growing season and share the cuttings — every trimmed stem roots into a new plant.
